About the opportunityThe Strategic Media and Public Relations Manager’s primary role is to provide University leadership and the Director of Media and Public Relations with timely and high-quality advice, communication collateral and strategic plans.As a member of the University’s Media and PR leadership team, the Strategic Media and Public Relations Manager supports the Director of Media to build and protect the University’s reputation and works with the Head, Central Media and PR in response to institutional media matters including issues management and high-stakes communication.The role supports the Director and works with the Head of Media to oversee the University’s responses to media matters, including crisis management, and aids in risk mitigation by identifying and addressing potential issues. Additionally, the role is responsible for creating and executing proactive and mitigation media strategies that highlight the University’s strategic priorities and institution-wide activities and initiatives.Your key responsibilities will be to:

proactively lead the University’s media processes around response to issues and crisis management

support the management of the strategic positioning of positive media coverage about the University

provide high-level advice and briefings to senior management including the University Executive on issues running in the University

identify issues as they emerge and work with stakeholders to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

About you

experience in crisis communication and making recommendations to senior management in a timely and efficient manner

significant experience devising and creating communications and content to meet strategic objectives

well-developed project management skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and to meet deadlines

experience working in a complex multi-faceted organisation
